2010 Audi R8 V10 5.2 FSI quattro Specifications

A V10 Audi R8 has been rumored for months, ever since the Lamborghini on which it is based got a high performance V10 in LP560 trim based on the 10 cylinder motors from the Audi S6 and S8. For Audi's halo supercar R8 model to carry a smaller and less powerful engine than the German luxury brand's huge, cushy and overstyled largest luxury sedan was an injustice not fitting to the R8's incredible capabilities and styling.

Audi R8 V10 Performance

The R8 V10, which carries the official title Audi R8 5.2 FSI quattro though even Audi refers to it as R8 V10 at times in official documentation, carries a direct injection naturally aspirated V10 good for 525 horses at 8000 rpm and 390 lb-ft. of torque, though the torque peak comes at a stratospheric 6500 rpm.

The powerful V10 is related to the motor used in other Audi V10 models, but it has been updated with Audi's new FSI direct injection technology which has made its way into nearly the entire model range. The V10 midengine powerplant is mounted behind the rear seats but in front of the rear axle, and Audi boasts of the motor's 90 degree cylinder angle and dry sump system allowing for as low a center of gravity as possible. The V10 engine itself also only weights 68 pounds more than the current R8's 8 cylinder motor.
